EllemenTips For Dengue Prevention

Every mother wants their children to be safe from any illnesses especially now that Dengue cases are arising. Its okay to worry but definitely not alright if you don't do anything to prevent it.

Aedes Aegypti are Dengue carrying mosquitoes that usually breeds inside our house and the peak hour that they bite is between 4pm to 6pm.

Aedes Albopictus are the mosquitoes that usually breeds outside the house. And they usually bite during daytime.

The best way to prevent dengue mosquito from breeding is to destroy their habitat. Anything that can stock water small or large amount should be disposed properly or should be sealed.

Avoid hanging clothes or anything that a mosquito can hide from. Especially in the dark spots of the house.

Always have insect repellant lotion handy. Check on the label about the # of hours that it can protect you from mosquito bites and re-apply when needed.

Wear clothes that can cover your skin from mosquito bites. Better to wear light colored clothes as dark colored clothes attracts mosquitoes according to recent studies.

Mosquitoes are sensitive in strong human odor or scent. Doesn't matter if you're smelling good or bad, they know that you're around if they can smell you and will make you their next target.

No other medicine that you should take for fever but Paracetamol as it is the safest medicine for dengue fever (to control the body's temperature but not to treat dengue infection directly) If you have allergy better call your doctor but never ever take Ibuprofen. Consult your doctor if its the 2nd day of fever.
Remember that there's no medicine yet to cure dengue virus, and according to the latest studies there are already four strains of dengue (actually five but the study about the fifth is not yet finalized).
For those who had the infection (dengue) before be extra careful not to acquire the virus again as it will be more risky especially to the adults.

For patients that were diagnosed to have the virus, make sure that no more mosquito can bite from your skin as this is the most common way that the mosquito can transmit the virus to their victims. It cannot be spread by direct contact to a person.

And the most important is to make sure that our surroundings are clean and mosquito free. Nobody has discovered the cure yet but we all know the ways to prevent it.

ElleMentips For A Healthy Mommy

Mommies we all know that our priority is our family. It's a mother's instinct to set aside her needs and wants over her family's welfare. But like other individuals we are only human, we can't guarantee that we are always in tip top shape. And we can't afford to be sick as there will be nobody that will take care of our family like a mother can do yes, nannies will be there to cover for us but we all know that nobody can pass a mother's standards.

What can be done to avoid being unwell?

1. Eat Healthy. I'm not saying that you have to make a drastic change in your eating habits, you can minimize eating oily or fatty food and replace it with veggies or fruits. Do it regularly until your body can adapt to the change and will become your habit or shall I say 'healthy habit'

2. Hydrate. Water! Known as the 'Universal Solvent' and it will not be called like that for nothing. Water is known to dissolve a lot of substances. We can compare the toxins and bad elements in our body to those substances that water can dissolve or can help to flush away from our body. And not just that, your bonus is that you will have clearer and smoother skin. 10 glasses a day is all it takes. C'mon doesn't hurt is it?

3. Supplements. Making sure that we are getting the right amount of all the vitamins and minerals that our body needs is difficult to do. Thanks to the geniuses that invented and developed the supplements that will fill the gaps between the missing nutrients. Let's name a few that woman needs the most:

  • Iron (ferrous sulphate or ferrous fumarate)  to help you keep your energy and say goodbye to the tired and stressed feeling. I personally take Stresstabs everyday and Iberet Active once every week

FYI: ferrous sulphate and ferrous fumarate both contains iron the difference is that ferrous fumarate is organic which means that chances that you will experience side effects are lesser compared to taking ferrous sulphate. And I suggest for you to discuss with your doctor which will work best for you.

  • Vitamin C or Ascorbic acid this form of vitamin is known to boost our immune system. Vitamin C if taken regularly can prevent us from getting viral infections, we don't want to be the carrier of infection that can harm our family right? To make it sweeter let's make sure that the whole family will have a dose of Vitamin C everyday. Very effective and best of all very affordable. Rhea Ascorbic Acid 500mg is one of the most affordable brand in the market and what we commonly use.
  • Vitamin E  benefits our body's largest organ which is the skin. Its not bad to sometimes reward ourselves of small things that can boost our ego and confidence. This form of vitamin ensures that we'll have not just healthy skin but it also strengthens the hair strands and gives us healthy hair and nail growth. Myra-E 300/400iu is the only vitamin E that I tried using.
  • B-Complex  are combined vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12. And with all these combined will help us prevent memory loss and migraine (B9), produce red blood cells and helps iron do its job (B12), control blood glucose level for diabetics and gives us healthy skin and nails (B7 & B5). It also acts as an anti-stress vitamin (B1 & B6), prevents acne and boosts the production of good cholesterol to prevent heart disease (B3) and best of all it protects our body from harmful free radicals (B2). Imagine that you can find all these benefits in just a small tablet?! Awesome!
  • Calcium yeah I know that some people don't like drinking their glass of milk because of Lactose intolerance. And to make up for the calcium and other minerals that should have been absorbed by the body in the form of milk, there's always a calcium supplement that will ensure the strength and flexibility of our precious bones. Caltrate is one of the best brands for calcium supplements.

4. Exercise. Everybody knows about the importance of exercise to our body. The issue is that some just ignore and chose to not to do it because of a lot of factors. We can incorporate our exercise routines to the things or chores that we do everyday. We can stretch our arms while mopping the floor (using bunot or dried coconut husk). Stretching those muscles at least 30mins. each day is enough, you don't actually need to enroll in a gym and spend money unless you have a clear purpose on doing so, but for us mommies doing the household errands and 30mins. stretching is good enough.

5. Meditate. If you haven't tried this yet and you want to jump start your day in a different way I suggest you try this. Before getting up of your bed in the morning do the angel sit first and make sure that your back holds a straight posture. Close your eyes and try to think about nothing, yes absolutely NOTHING and then inhale and exhale calmly, feel the air circulate inside your body and keep the position for at least 10-15mins. I don't want to state the effect because I want you to catch on it yourself.
How does it makes you healthy? Remember that a healthy body is a product of a healthy mind.

Why I Believe That "walang forever" Is Not True

"Walang forever!!" This has been a common source of humor for a 'bitter' person. A lot of times that I heard this whenever a love team was featured in a television program. And I can only care less. I have my own reason to say that "walang forever" is not true.

1. How can you say "walang forever" if you are stucked in the forever traffic in EDSA? C'mon admit it, this traffic can make you regret that you were not born to be a bird.

2. MRT line peak or off peak hours. How I wish that there's still a solution to avoid looooooong lines waiting to board the train. You left the house in the morning smelling fresh and after riding the train you will look like someone that just came from a battle with gladiators.

3. Electricity, water, petroleum and telco companies that are charging more over the suggested price or adding charges on our bill that even their customer service reps can't clearly explain why the consumers are being charged of the amount. The forever experience of paying more than what you have consumed and you can complain and yell all you want or just shut up and pay what's on the bill to avoid service disconnection.

4. "Walang forever" in corruption? I will bet my index finger if someone can put an end to this 'contagious political disease'. We can't expect all the people that are elected or assigned by the Administration will never think about doing even small acts of corruption. This has been one of the reason why the election for Sangguniang Kabataan was postponed because they 'just' realized that it was being used as a training ground for future corrupt politicians (at least they were able to realize that, better late than never baby).

5. The hopeless case of reducing the tax that employees are paying 'sana may forever' battle. If only taxpayers can see that the money that they are giving to the government is being used on projects that can benefit the majority and not just Napoles? This government made us feel guilty because the money that we worked hard for was actually the reason why these people like Napoles was jailed (actually because of the illegal detention case but whatever! Seeing this devil in disguise in jail can somehow makes me satisfied).
